The company was founded in 1993 by Trilby White and Lisa Reitveld as a way to exploit a hobby craft project. Their first product group was a set of hand drawn mirror frames that were sold through art galleries, first in the Minneapolis area and eventually throughout the United States and in several places around the world. Trilby and Lisa went to work on a less expensive version of the frames that got them started. These, too, were a great success and began to move out of the restricted distribution of art galleries and into the world of gift stores and boutiques.
